Goc-ha: Leafs fall to Panthers – Advanced boxscore

…welp.

A brutal effort all around for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who didn’t muster any first period offense and were absolutely brutal on special teams leading to a 4-2 loss to the Florida Panthers that is pretty well the final nail in the coffin for their playoff hopes. I’m sure at this point in the season, the process means little to Leafs fans, but you might be interested to see how they’re doing as we head into the summer…

Individual chances, Toronto:

Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel were involved in the most recorded scoring chances tonight, Kessel setting up a pair (Bozak and Tim Connolly) while the defense was pretty good at getting in position in the zone, but couldn’t hit the net. Aesthetically, this was one of Luke Schenn’s best games on offense. I thought he was pretty good overall. The second line, as has been the case, was invisible. Nik Kulemin was nowhere to be found.

Also, it isn’t often I write “TOR – 38 SOG” in my notebook, but there Jay Rosehill is.

Individual chances, Florida:

Marcel Goc was all over the ice in this one and he was appropriately rewarded.

Here are the team chances, for and against, for each player at all strengths.

First, for Toronto:

The thing that sticks out immediately is that the Leafs won the EV chance battle 16-9. Specialty teams really cost them on this night, giving up five chances and two goals. Dion Phaneuf and Carl Gunnarsson were the two worst offenders there, but so was Matt Lombardi. Kulemin was probably the best on the PK.

As for evens, Phil Kessel was +6 in scoring chances. He had another great game. John-Michael Liles somehow a +7.

And Florida…

Pretty bad night for Brian Campbell and Tomas Fleischmann, who should be top players for the Panthers, but they made it up on the PP.
