The hockey world lost an absolute legend on Thursday.
Bob Cole was an icon. He was the very best at what he did.
Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing the broadcasting legend’s passing and his impact on the game. He was one of a kind. There’s no doubt about that. Sportsnet had a fantastic tribute to the all-time great on Thursday night.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we led off by tackling some of the latest injury news. At this point, there’s hope William Nylander, who continues to skate daily, could be good to return from his head injury on Saturday night in Game 4. Obviously, Nylander’s arrival back on the scene would have so many positive ramifications attached to it. Most notably, there’s no question he would help the struggling power play. Incredibly, Boston’s PP has outscored Toronto’s 5-1 through the first three games of the series. Special teams and goaltending —that’s been the story so far. Additionally, we talked about Bobby McMann. It’s been very quiet on that front. He hasn’t been ruled out for the series just yet, but time’s running out. His return seems doubtful at this point. Furthermore, from the looks of it at Friday’s practice, assuming Nylander’s good to go, Connor Dewar and not Nick Robertson could be the odd man out for Saturday night. We shall see.
Meantime, brought to you by Douglas, TSN Hockey Analyst Jamie McLennan dropped by the show to give his thoughts on what he’s seen thus far. Naturally, a lot of the conversations stemmed around the crease. Can Ilya Samsonov get the job done? Who will the Bruins go to in Game 4? We also talked about adjustments and coaching.

That will do it for another week of the show. We’ll be back on Monday for a full recap of this weekend’s festivities, plus we’ll look ahead to Game 5 in Boston on Tuesday night.
