Don’t look now but the Leafs are six points back of Boston in the standings with two games in hand.
Starting Monday night at Scotiabank Arena, two of the next three will be against the rival Bruins.
Happy trade deadline week!
We kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing some major news from over the weekend. TLN has a new post-game show launching! Join Zack Phillips for the first ever episode of TheLeafsNation After Dark directly following the Leafs/Bruins game on the TLN YouTube page (@theleafsnation401). Looking forward to that!

Meantime, obviously, we got into all the Ryan Reaves/Matt Rempe hoopla from over the weekend. Firstly, Rosey broke down the fight before the conversation naturally migrated over to the hit – Reaves on Lyubushkin – which initiated the scrap.

Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer focused on Toronto’s 4-3 shootout victory against the New York Rangers on Saturday night. Max Domi potted the winner while Ilya Samsonov made 32 stops. He was incredible. Additionally, William Nylander got benched (yet again), Calle Jarnkrok made his return after missing 13 games with a broken knuckle, and Ilya Lyubushkin played just over 12 minutes before leaving the game and not returning after the Rempe hit.
After that, brought to you by the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we preview the big tilt against Boston. The B’s won the first two; one in a shootout, one in OT. By the way, it sounds like Lyubushkin will be a game-time decision. He was on the ice for the morning skate. Ilya Samsonov was the first goalie off the ice, but there was no confirmation that he – in fact – would be the starter.
Lastly, courtesy of Douglas, Zack Phillips dropped by to preview the new show. Furthermore, Zack gave his thoughts on the Leafs season to-date and what he wants them to do ahead of Friday’s trade deadline.
