The Leafs have now 12 of 15 games since Morgan Rielly got suspended.
Talk about a galvanizing moment.
Jay Rosehill was back in the mix for the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing Bobby McMann’s emergence over the past month. Naturally, that led Rosey to give his thoughts on the 27-year-old’s new two-year extension.
Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer focused on Toronto’s impressive 6-2 win in Philadelphia on Thursday night. Ilya Samsonov made 26 stops. He’s now tallied seven straight road victories. Meantime, 13 different Leafs notched at least a point. Additionally, we broke down the injury to Calle Jarnkrok and what that could mean for others on the outside looking in —namely Nick Robertson. Lastly, we had a spirited debate about Sheldon Keefe’s decision to throw his first power play unit on the ice late in the third period with a 6-1 lead.

Brought to you by Tim Hortons, we talked about the latest on Mitch Marner. Prior to Thursday night’s game, it was revealed that Marner’s been dealing with a high ankle sprain, but it’s believed to be a mild one. With 17 games left in the regular season, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Timothy Liljegren and Joseph Woll suffered high ankle sprains earlier this season and both missed significant time. Hopefully the Marner sprain is different.
To wrap, courtesy the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we previewed Saturday night’s St. Patrick’s Day themed tilt at Scotiabank Arena with the Carolina Hurricanes. Who starts in goal: Ilya Samsonov or Joseph Woll? We also discussed Auston Matthews’ quest for 70. Papi needs 15 goals in the final 17 games to get the job done.
Join us on Monday at 11 AM ET for a full recap of Leafs/Canes, plus, we’ll look ahead to Toronto’s three-game week.
