And so, the post-mortem begins on yet another first round exit for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Change is coming, folks.
Buckle up.
We kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by giving our initial thoughts on the latest Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins. It really feels like Groundhog Day. For some reason, this one feels a bit different. It’s probably because the Leafs were right there, and then boom, it was snatched away from them again. Having said all that, we debated whether this team is anywhere closer to winning a Stanley Cup then they were when they initially drafted Auston Matthews.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we dissected Saturday night’s crippling loss. First and foremost, we talked about the numbing pain. It’s become an all too familiar feel in these parts. Who should take the most heat for all of this is the big question? Is it Mitch Marner, who had three points in seven games? Is it Sheldon Keefe? Is It Brendan Shanahan? In addition to touch on all that, we talked about the officiating. Furthermore, it’s become abundantly clear that this team is in need of big-time change. It would be the definition of insanity to run it back. Ultimately, it will be up to Brad Treliving and company to navigate through this mess.
After that, brought to you by Douglas, we hit on some of the polarizing quotes from over the weekend —namely from Brad Marchand and Matthew Tkachuk. Once again, the Leafs are the brunt of every joke, which is downright sickening. Meantime, the conversation shifted to what’s next. What will happen later this weekend? What do we want to see happen this summer?
