Happy Bobby McValentine’s Day!
If you know the Leafs, Tuesday night was so predictable.
Despite missing three of their highest paid players and six regulars, Toronto put forth one of its most complete efforts of the season smothering the red-hot St. Louis Blues 4-1.
Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing what the Leafs and Morgan Rielly would give the NHL on Valentine’s Day. It wouldn’t be something endearing, would it?
Presented by Door Dash, in The Appetizer, we broke down the big-time victory. Indisputably, Bobby McMann’s first career hat trick was the biggest story of the night. The 27-year-old was fantastic. It’s always good to see the bottom-six chip in, especially with several of the big boys out of the lineup. Additionally, we discussed the makeshift Bertuzzi-Domi-Robertson trio. They played well, but sadly, that didn’t equate to a goal. It wasn’t for a lack of trying, though. Tyler Bertuzzi is so snake bitten right now. He hasn’t scored in 18 games.
Meantime, brought to you by Douglas, we broke down the five-game suspension to Morgan Rielly. Weirdly, with their victory on Tuesday night, the Leafs improved to 15-2-1 in 18 outings without Rielly dating back to last season. That makes no sense.

After that, courtesy of BATL Axe, former NHL enforcer/ current host of the Dropping the Gloves podcast, John Scott, dropped by dish on all the madness. As per usual, he came in cocked and loaded with some hot takes.

Lastly, sponsored by Charm Diamond Centres, we took our weekly look at the Atlantic Division standings. Of importance, Detroit got throttled by Edmonton on Tuesday night and Tampa edged Boston in a shootout. Moral of the story: It’s never too early to scoreboard watch.
Once again, Carter Hutton will be co-hosting the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. In addition to offering up a Leafs/Flyers preview, TSN’s Craig Button will drop by for a chat.
