It appears that the key to winning in the Western Conference Final is by spotting the opposition a two or three goal lead.
After Dallas took a quick 2-0 first period lead, the Oilers potted five unanswered goals to tie their best-of-7 series up at two games apiece.
Both Conference Finals are now down to a best-of-7.
Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Naturally, we kicked off the show by dissecting Game 4 of the Western Conference Final. That series has been wildly entertaining, highlighted of course, by crazy momentum swings. Who said hockey wasn’t a game of runs? It’s turning into basketball.
After that, we talked some Easton Cowan. On Wednesday night in Saginaw, Toronto’s No. 1 prospect notched two goals and an assist as London topped the Spirit and punched their ticket to the Memorial Cup Final on Sunday. If the Knights win that game, it’s conceivable to suggest that Cowan could win tournament MVP to go along with his OHL regular season and playoff MVP honours. He’s had a tremendous year.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we got into a conversation about what the rest of Craig Berube’s staff might look like. Earlier this week, Toronto born Mike Yeo, who coached with Berube in St. Louis, parted ways with the Canucks. In recent days, he’s been linked to both the Leafs and the Ottawa Senators. Furthermore, on the 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman listed Brad Lauer and Lane Lambert as a few other potential options. Marc Savard’s name continues to be out there as well.
Meantime, thanks to our friends over at Wendy’s, long-time NHL broadcaster John Shannon dropped by for a chat. We talked Craig Berube, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and what the Leafs should do in the crease this summer.
