The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that centre John Tavares has sustained an oblique injury:
There’s no word yet on the severity of the injury, but even if it proves minor, the Leafs might be wise to suggest Tavares sit out of the World Championships and not risk further injury that might derail his summer training regiment.
Tavares last represented Canada at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, where he contributed 1 goal and 3 assists to Canada’s Gold Medal championship. Tavares has appeared in the World Championships three times prior while he was a member of the New York Islanders.
Expect more information soon on the extent of Tavares’ injury.
