The Florida Panthers are now just one win away from advancing to the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight season. Paul Maurice’s squad edged the Rangers 3-2 at MSG in Game 5 to grab a 3-2 series lead. All in all, both Conference Finals have been tremendous thus far.
We kicked off the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take by giving our brief thoughts on that before teeing up the jam-packed show ahead, one that included two monster guests. With that in mind, presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we welcomed in Jon Cooper, the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, for a quick chat. Once again, Coop is in Atlanta on behalf of TNT doing some panel work alongside his friend Wayne Gretzky and the rest of the cast. We talked about what to expect, the constant coaching carousel, and what he thinks of his buddy Craig Berube taking over in Toronto. It was a lot of fun!

After, thanks to our friends over at Wendy’s, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli dropped by. On Wednesday, Frank unveiled Daily Faceoff’s first trade targets board of the offseason. Unsurprisingly, Mitch Marner was No. 1 on that list, so naturally, we spent most of the conversation breaking that down and what it could mean moving forward. There are so moving parts to this but Frank thinks that if a deal does go down, it would have to happen before the beginning of the draft in Las Vegas. Silly season is here, folks! Buckle up.
Meantime, as we do on a weekly basis, we broke down the Great Clips inbox question of the week. It stemmed from John Shannon’s opinion on Thursday’s show that Brad Treliving and company should try to move Morgan Rielly instead of Mitch Marner. Any way you slice it, something drastic needs to happen, or it could be the same old same for this squad next spring.
That will do it for another week of Leafs Morning Take. Talk on Monday at 11 AM ET!
