Through the mess that is the battle of bottom-pairing defencemen trying to find a spot with the Leafs, there has been a little breakthrough of who will make it to the final roster.
From David Pagnotta, the Leafs are reportedly trying to trade away Connor Carrick. Assuming that he is not going to be in the lineup, the best thing would be to try and get something back for the 24-year-old defenceman.
His position as a somewhat mobile right-handed defenceman is a highly-sought after commodity in today’s NHL. His value might be inflated because of that.
Last season, Carrick was only in the lineup for 47 games and in that span, he was able to score four goals and twelve points. He did not dress for any playoff games.
Carrick has played three preseason games for the Leafs so far and had plenty of chances to impress the coaching staff. Averaging just over twenty minutes per game, he has only been able to acquire one assist and three shots on goal.
It’s just preseason, but he has not looked very good and I don’t think any fan will be too upset to see him get a chance on another blueline.
I’ll miss you, Hoagie.
