In an unexpected turn of events, it appears that the “Alex Pietrangelo to Toronto rumours have become more probable than ever.
On Friday night, Darren Dreger of TSN reported that contract talks between Pietrangelo and the St. Louis Blues have ended. Meaning the 31-year-old defenceman will become a UFA on October 9th.
Obviously things can change in the coming weeks, but this is quite an exciting development for Leafs fans regardless. Earlier today, there were rumours suggesting that Pietrangelo is committed to meet with other teams, so this latest update validates the reports.
His accomplishments in St. Louis include two All-Star appearances, two nods to the NHL All-Star second team, and a Stanley Cup in 2019. This past season saw him produce 16 goals, 36 assists, and 52 points in just 70 games played.
Buckle up folks- Speculatetember has entered maximum overdrive.
