Leafs Postgame: Leafs fall to the Isles

Just when I was having a good run with writing about times we won… Sigh. Leafs lose, 5-1, to the New York Islanders. [Insert joke about the Barclay Center seating and visibility here].

THE RUNDOWN

  • Starting in net for the Maple Leafs is Jhonas Enroth. Starting in net for the Islanders is Thomas Greiss.
  • Isles get on the board first with a goal from Travis Hamonic, assisted by Nick Leddy and Nikolai Kulemin. 1-0 Islanders.
  • Isles get another – Casey Cizikas scores from a Cal Clutterbuck shot, with an assist from Kulemin. 2-0 Islanders.
  • Dennis Seidenberg takes a hooking penalty halfway through the first, but the Isles kill it off.
  • End of the first, Leafs trail 2-0.
  • Tyler Bozak gets two minutes for tripping early in the second, but the Leafs kill it off.
  • John Tavares gets two minutes for hooking not long after, but the Isles kill that off too.
  • Isles almost get another goal as Brock Nelson tries to shove the puck underneath Enroth. Call is reviewed. No goal. Still 2-0 Islanders.
  • Nazem Kadri and Shane Prince start some #fisticuffs halfway through the second. Kadri gets a four minute roughing penalty, Prince only two minutes.
  • Andrew Ladd and Matt Martin also start some #fisticuffs. Martin gets two for roughing. Ladd gets two for roughing and an extra two for slashing.
  • Teams finish out the second period with the Islanders still leading 2-0.
  • Leafs start the third period on the powerplay.
  • Leafs score early in the third period. Jake Gardiner with a powerplay goal. 2-1 Islanders.
  • Shane Prince scores with assists from Seidenberg and Nelson. 3-1 Islanders.
  • Nelson scores soon after with assists from Prince and Seidenberg. 4-1 Islanders.
  • Josh Bailey with the final goal of the game with assists from Leddy and Tavares. 5-1 Islanders.

BLUE WARRIOR

Tonight’s Blue Warrior goes to Jake Gardiner with the lone Leafs goal this game. Gardiner’s rocket of a shot from the point, through traffic, was a sight to behold in a game that was definitely not one of the Toronto Maple Leafs best this season.

SHOUTOUT

Tonight’s shoutout goes to Jhonas Enroth. Enroth, I feel you, bud. Your defencemen are… shaky. A lot of them are young and perhaps prone to stupid mistakes, a couple are old and not as fast as they need to be. But either way, they should be better. They need to be better. So shoutout to you, Jhonas Enroth. You gave it your all.

COMING UP NEXT

The Toronto Maple Leafs next play at the Air Canada Centre on Tuesday November 1st against the Edmonton Oilers.
