Jeremy Bracco opened his Memorial Cup account Friday night in emphatic fashion.
With the Leafs prospect picking up a goal and an assist, Bracco’s Windsor Spitfires (who are hosting the tournament) pulled ahead 3-2 in the opening game of the 2017 Memorial Cup in a win over the Saint John Sea Dogs.
Here’s a bunch of early highlights, which includes Bracco’s assist around the :45 second mark of the video:
And then Bracco’s goal, which doubled their lead:
The Windsor squad would be able to add another goal to make it 3-0 early in the third period.
Saint John added two late goals, but it wasn’t enough as the hosts found themselves coming out on top in this one.
As you might recall, Bracco had a great start to the OHL season with the Kitchener Rangers before his subsequent trade to Windsor while he was at the World Juniors. Bracco registered points in 26 straight OHL games (17 G, 34 A) with the Rangers, only being held pointless in his final ever game in a Kitchener uniform. Bracco also picked up World Junior gold this past year with the American team that beat Canada in the final.
It might be too early to call, but maybe one day soon Ottawa Senators property Casey Bailey will be able to say he’s the father of two Memorial Cup MVPs.
