Leafs Prospect Update: November 18th, 2012

Morgan Rielly’s season just keeps going downhill.
With only 2 points in his past 7 games, the Leafs’ greatest beacon-of-hope faced further humiliation this past week. First, news surfaced that Rielly’s bobblehead release date would be pushed back “due to complications with the manufacturer.”
Now, video footage from the Subway Super Series shows Moose Jaw teammate Sam Fioretti making some disparaging (and censored) remarks about Rielly’s Movember muzzy. Leave your ‘PG’ guess as to what Sam Fioretti actually said to Rielly in the comments section below.
Moving on – It’s good to see that Nazem Kadri has woken up.
It’s one thing to get off to a ‘slow start’, but Kadri’s 2012-2013 campaign was looking pretty grim until this past week, when the Marlies forward broke out with 2 goals and 11 points in 5 games (he only had 3 points in his previous 9 games). With this hot streak, Kadri has pulled himself up into the AHL’s point-per-game club and into a three-way tie with Keith Aucoin and Mike Kostka with 14 points.
Matt Frattin returned to action this week after knee surgery kept him out of action since last year’s Calder Cup run. Frattin scored twice in a 6-3 Marlies loss to Hamilton on Friday, was rested on Saturday, then scored again in a 5-0 Sunday afternoon beatdown on Abbotsford.
Also for the Marlies – Jake Gardiner has 1 goal 5 assists in his past 5 games, and an impressive 5 goals and 12 points in 15 games so far this season.
In the Ontario Hockey League, Stuart Percy got the better of former 2011 first rounder Tyler Biggs in Mississauga’s Sunday evening victory over Oshawa. Percy picked up 3 assists and was a +4, while Biggs was held pointless and went home with a -3.
Though scoreless in his last four, Connor Brown is currently on an 8-game point streak, with 6 goals and 8 assists in the month of November. I’d say he’s putting up great number for such a late draft choice, but I’m afraid the Leafs might mistake him for Josh Nicholls and cut ties.
Down in the NCAA, Tony Cameranesi continued his own points parade this weekend. The Minnesota-Duluth forward had a goal and 2 assists in a Friday tie and Saturday loss to North Dakota. That’s 8 points in Cameranesi’s last 5 games.
