Leafs Prospects Go Home Empty Handed As Edmonton Wins 2014 Memorial Cup

The Edmonton Oil Kings have defeated the Guelph Storm by a score of 6-3 to win the 2014 Mastercard Memorial Cup. Most importantly, that means that the three Leafs prospects taking part in the tournament have all gone home empty handed. 

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Guelph captain Matt Finn will probably have the longest summer out of the three, as his Storm steamrolled through the round robin but failed to close it out in Sunday’s championship game. Though he failed to produce any points and finished with a -3 in the loss to Edmonton, Finn still finished the tournament respectable four assists in four games.

Though his Val d’Or Foruers didn’t make it to the finals, Antoine Bibeau was easily the Leafs’ most impressive Memorial Cup representative. Bibeau posted the best goaltending numbers of the tournament, with a 2.76 GAA and a .932 SV% in four games. A 51-save shutout over the London Knights and a 50-save loss in triple overtime to the eventual champs were certainly highlights for Bibeau, whose stock has dramatically risen in the past few weeks.

London’s Ryan Rupert had a pretty underwhelming tournament, failing to register a point in three Knights losses.
