Minutes after the Leafs announced the re-signing of RFA defenseman Connor Carrick, they signed another upcoming RFA in goaltender Calvin Pickard.

A cheap and safe option for some goaltending depth for an organization that might need it sooner than later. He certainly deserved earning an NHL salary no matter where he is playing next season. Certainly a little rich to have four goaltenders making that money, but if anyone can afford it, the Leafs can.
Acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights for Tobias Lindberg and a 2018 6th-round pick, the 25-year-old Pickard has primarily spent his time in Toronto with the Marlies in the AHL. Playing only one single game with the Leafs this season.
With the Marlies, he played in a total of 33 games and posted a .918 sv%, good for 15th among all goaltenders in the AHL this season. Sharing the crease with Garret Sparks made the Marlies have arguably the best goaltenders in the whole league, and maybe the best tandem the league has ever seen.
