On the heels of a road back-to-back that saw them beat the Senators last night, the Leafs will head into Buffalo this evening for a tilt with the Sabres. It’s an important game, like all of them at this point, where they can put 6 points between themselves and the 4th place Panthers with a win.
It also looks like, given the proximity to home, the team will use the opportunity to potentially get some fresh legs in the lineup. We know the Leafs have been battling some nagging injuries recently, along with a flu bug that’s burned through the locker room over the past week.
Then again, both of these guys might just be getting the call to hop up to the big club for a couple days of NHL salary as a reward for their strong play with the Marlies recently. Both have been scoring at a nice clip in the last few AHL games. Korshkov is currently sitting on 14 goals in 35 games on the season, while Marchment has 13 in 24. This will also be the second little stint for Marchment, who got into 3 games for the Leafs a few weeks back.
This doesn’t seem particularly noteworthy, but if we want to go into full trade season speculation mode, maybe this signifies the Leafs are working on something and want to have a little insurance in the lineup. Either way, nice to see the team continue to put trust in graduating players from the minors, even if it is for just an ounce of exposure or a couple practices.
