The Ryan O’Reilly era is here and if this is a sign of things to come, we are in for a heck of a ride. The Leafs put the pressure on all night and took care of the Habs 5-1. O’Reilly dominated the faceoff circle, picked up an assist and fit right in with Mitch Marner and John Tavares. Noel Acciari chipped in with five shots and five hits as well. Below are the highlights from the game.
It was nearly a storybook start for O’Reilly. On the game’s opening shift he got a chance in tight but Jake Allen made the stop…
It was a back and forth first period. Neither team could solve the goaltenders. William Nylander almost had an absolute beauty here…
Josh Anderson put the Habs up one in the first minute of the second period. He deflected the Mike Matheson point shot for his 16th goal of the year…
The Leafs tied it up on the powerplay. Auston Matthews made a nice move then found Michael Bunting back door to make it 1-1…
Later in the second Joseph Woll denied Mike Hoffman on the two on one too keep the game even…
Shortly after the Woll save Pierre Engvall went to work on the forecheck, forced a turnover and found the back of the net. 2-1 Leafs…
Bunting struck for the second time in the middle frame to make it 3-1. O’Reilly picked up his first point as a Leaf with the secondary assist…
The Leafs kept rolling in the third. Matthews played set up man again finding Nylander all alone to put Toronto up three…
David Kampf ended his goal drought with just over five minutes left in the game. He cleaned up the Engvall point shot for his first goal of the calendar year. 5-1 Leafs final.
