Leafs sign Calle Rosen to two-year extension

Amidst some hyperbole and complaining about the Leafs’ toughness, the team itself has signed a contract extension to a potential NHL defenceman for the next couple of years.

The Leafs have signed current Marlies defenceman Calle Rosen to a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the team until 2021. The extension will carry a $750,000 AAV for its cap hit.

As reported, the contract extension is a one-way deal, meaning that he will be earning the same amount of salary in the NHL and AHL. This signifies that the organization is expecting him to be with the Leafs either sometime this season, or starting out on the 2019-20 Leafs blueline.

The 24-year-old defenceman has only played a total of four games for the Leafs but has consistently been a top defenceman for the Marlies since arriving in North America. The Leafs were able to sign Rosen as a European free agent in the 2017 offseason, to a two-year Entry Level Contract.

After scoring 22 points in 62 games for the Marlies last year, it was uncertain if he would make his mark on the Leafs for this season, but Rosen has certainly caught a massive amount of attention now. The Swedish defenceman currently has two goals and 17 assists in just 24 games this year – a remarkable feat to place him sixth among AHL defenceman in scoring.
