Apparently, Dave Morrison was a big fan of American junior league players this year.
To go along with USHL picks J.J. Piccinich and Dakota Joshua, the Leafs selected 6’0, 190lb left winger Nolan Vesey with their 6th round pick, 158th overall.
Vesey spent last season piling up points in the USPHL’s Premier Division with the South Shore Kings, scoring 26 goals and 66 points in only 48 games – good for second in league scoring.
Haven’t heard of the USPHL? It’s the new United States Premier Hockey League, formed in 2012. A rival league to the more well-known USHL, Vesey was actually drafted by the Dubuque Fighting Saints, but decided he’d play for South Shore instead.
Next season, Vesey will join the University of Maine Black Bears
