LGD: A Shutout So Nice Let’s Do It Twice

The Leafs close out their first set of back to back games of the season tonight, and that means despite Freddie Andersen quelling our fears about the start to his season, the numbers (and the coach) say it’s better for him to sit. Since Calvin Pickard or Garret Sparks haven’t caught a bus over from the Ricoh, it looks like we’re going to see Curtis McElhinney make his first appearance of the season for the Leafs. The good news is that it’s against the Red Wings. The bad news is it’s against a Red Wings team that has been playing beyond their abilities to start the season.

Loose Change

  • Right now the Wings have been using Jimmy Howard as their number one goaltender (for reasons no one can comprehend) and we can probably expect to see him to start the game. Mrazek will likely play the second and third after Auston has done Auston things to a team that plays Jimmy Howard and has a pairing of Jonathan Ericsson and Trevor Daley.
  • Luke Witkowski is someone’s EA create a player that became sentient.
  • Mitch Marner played around the same icetime as Bozak, Marleau, and a few other Leafs forwards last night. It’s probably fine that he’s still on the fourth line and in back to back games it’s probably a good thing that key players aren’t completely drained.
  • Right now the lines still show Rosen and Moore in, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see Borgman and Fehr rotate in. It would be shocking to see Leivo rotate in and unless someone is nursing an injury from last night he’ll probably be the odd man out again.
Tonight’s game starts at 7:30 PM ET, and can be seen on Sportsnet 360

On a sad note…

Our favourite Bruins fan, Gord Downie has passed away. Like most Canadians I’ve probably learned more about this country from his lyrics than I ever did from a textbook. His love for Canada and his determination to make it even better were inspiring and transcend even the beauty of his art. He will be truly missed by all of his fans here at TLN.
