LGD: Andersen Saves
By Ryan Fancey
7 years agoYet another “biggest night of the season” is upon us, as the Leafs are back at it in their 76th game of the season while essentially everyone around them in the standings is in action as well.
As we currently stand, Toronto is four points clear of Tampa in terms of simply holding down a playoff spot, and are still beating out the Bruins for 3rd in the Atlantic, a point ahead with a game in hand. Meanwhile, we’re officially in “cheering guide” mode for everything else going on, and tonight’s guide is as follows:
Go Flyers (against the Islanders), Go Jackets (against Carolina, who are somehow still in this), Go Dallas (against the Bruins), and most importantly, Go Detroit (against Tampa).
Aside from the Jackets, I don’t have a ton of hope in any of those teams. But no matter, the Leafs can do themselves a lot of good by getting their own work done tonight in Nashville. What we’re basically looking at is this team needing three – maybe four – wins in their last seven and that should be enough. A victory against a very evenly matched opponent tonight would obviously do a lot to ease some minds.
The Leafs
As usual, lineups from DailyFaceoff.
LW | C | RW |
---|---|---|
Zach Hyman | Auston Matthews | William Nylander |
Leo Komarov | Nazem Kadri | Connor Brown |
James van Riemsdyk | Tyler Bozak | Mitchell Marner |
Matt Martin | Brian Boyle | Kasperi Kapanen |
Defensive Pairings | |
---|---|
Morgan Rielly | Connor Carrick |
Jake Gardiner | Nikita Zaitsev |
Matt Hunwick | Roman Polak |
Kapanen gets his second appearance, as he should. Otherwise, nothing really of note. Bozak did miss the morning skate, but he’s been skipping practice for a while as he nurses an unknown injury.
The Preds
LW | C | RW |
---|---|---|
Filip Forsberg | Ryan Johansen | Viktor Arvidsson |
Colin Wilson | Colton Sissons | Craig Smith |

Roman Josi | Ryan Ellis |
Mattias Ekholm | P.K. Subban |

What a perfectly average team.
Starting Goaltenders
Oh you didn’t hear?
Yes, the season is back on. The panic is over. Andersen (0.918 sv%) gets the go-ahead against Pekka Rinne (0.916).
