LGD- Eric Brewer Bowl

Eric Brewer is known for many things. 2002 Olympic Gold Medallist, member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, journeyman NHL defenceman. Tonight, he’ll make himself known for something else- becoming a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs- and in doing so, suit up for his sixth NHL team. Brewer is 9 games away from the 1000 career game milestone, and at age 35, he’s had a rather solid NHL career.
(Point of note: Where the hell did that goalie stick in the photo come from, and why is it so upright????? I’ve been trying to figure it out for like, 10 minutes. My best guess is that either Bozak or Brewer is a wizard. If you have any theories, please comment them or contact me. I’m really, really, curious.)

The Leafs

Though Daily Faceoff.com has Brewer out of the lineup, he’s slated to play tonight for the first time in the original blue-and-white (sorry, Tampa.)

The Lightning

The Lightning are arguably the NHL’s best collection of low-profile stars (plus that Stamkos fellow). Their second line is averaging 0.86 points per game each… while Tyler Johnson’s actually leading the team in scoring over Stamkos, with two fewer games played. Stamkos leads the team in goals however, with 36 to Johnson’s 24. No one on Toronto (Kessel) has more than 23.

Starting Goalies

Did you know Roman Polak and Ben Bishop were teammates in St. Louis? Now you do. (Eric Brewer was also on that team, by the way. As captain. What a guy. What a LEADER.)

What to Watch for:

  • Both goalies on both teams to get injured. It has to happen at some point in time, right?
  • Stamkos in the faceoff circle during the power play. Like Ovechkin, he’s always there, and always open, it seems. Time to start calling him Tim Hortons? McDonald’s?
  • 112 days to the NHL draft!
