LGD: Game 1: IT’S HACKEY SEASON!!!

Hockey returns tonight. That’s exciting. Let’s talk about it
for a while. Hopefully you spent some of your summer outside, doing stuff,
maybe spending some time with family or friends, because hockey is your only
friend now. Embrace your drug, slip on your jersey, open a beer and prepare to
spend the next nine months arguing about Tyler Bozak’s shooting percentage.

Again we have the traditional opening night matchup between
the Leafs and Habs. The Canadiens are proudly coming off a season that earned
them playoff participant ribbons, and the Leafs coming off a season that many
spent the summer drinking to forget. Tonight’s a clean slate and for the Leafs
a chance to pick up their fifth opening night win in a row. It’s also a chance
for us to take in the cheesefest which is an ACC opening night ceremony and the
booing of Randy Carlyle during his introduction.

We’ve talked about this team once or twice during the
summer. And I recall correctly we just spent the past month and half looking at
the entire roster and the majority of the prospects. I don’t know what more I
can tell you. If you’re new to this site or following this team I can assure
you that this Kessel fella is pretty good and you should definitely keep your
eyes on him.

Finding out what Stuart Percy and Brandon Kozun can do in an
actual factual NHL game should be exciting. While it’s unrealistic to expect
them to score on their first shifts, not having points by the end of the first
period would bring shame to their families.

The Habs made a huge upgrade in the offseason by choosing to
let Brian Gionta walk for nothing and may have been one of the most underrated
moves of the summer. In lesser transactions they decided to bring in P.A.
Parenteau because it was the only way they could trade Daniel Briere and manage
to get more French. Parenteau and friend of Corsi, Tom Gilbert, are the two
notable acquisitions, but don’t forget Jiri Sekac, who is being hyped at a Fabian Brunnstrom level. We can look forward to his hilarious downward spiral over the course of the year.
