LGD: It’s a trap

If you’ve been a follower of the Leafs for a while, you understand three simple rules:
  1. A Toronto-born player from a visiting team will always score a goal in front of family and friends at the ACC.
  2. A former Leaf will do the same, no matter where the game is played.
  3. Mid-week games against the Hurricanes are a f**king trap. Also see: Panthers.
No need to dig into the numbers and prove it, this is true and we all know it. At least the Leafs don’t have to worry about the first rule tonight, but if you have Jay McClement in fantasy, make sure he’s in the lineup.
The Leafs are the hottest team in the league, and who better to ruin it than a Southeast Metropolitan opponent who should instead be focusing their efforts on distancing themselves from the Oilers in the race for McDavid.
In all seriousness, the Canes are awful. They’re dead last in the NHL, and until I realized I had to write this preview, I had forgotten they were still in the league. The closest team to the Canes in the Eastern Conference standings are the lowly Flyers, and even they’re 8 points ahead. Carolina has lost six straight and should be the favourites for the 1st overall pick. Hopefully the Leafs can give them some help tonight.

The Leafs

Leafs lines via Daily Faceoff
van Riemsdyk – Bozak – Kessel
Winnik – The Dream – Santorelli
Lupul – Holland – Clarkson
van Riemsdyk – He’s so young – Kessel
Booth – Smith – Panik
Phaneuf – Franson
Gardiner – Holzer
Rielly – Robidas

The Hurricanes

Canes lines via Daily Faceoff
Gerbe – Staal – Dwyer?
Skinner – Rask? – Lindholm?
Boychuk – Nash – Terry?
Malone? – McClement (HAHA) – Shugg?
Sekera – Faulk (Top pairing?)
Harrison – Hainsey (Good lord)
Gleason – Jordan (Please, just stop this)
Okay, after reading down through that roster I’m fully convinced that the Canes are the only team in the NHL truly committed to McDavid, and I can respect that. Do it guys, don’t let Edmonton break him.

Starting goalies

A battle between two guys with big fat Stanley Cup rings.

What to look for

  • Some of those Canes players on hockeydb.
  • Carlyle and McClement chatting about the good times.
