It’s Game Day!
The Leafs, fresh off a come-back victory against the Penguins, welcome the Anaheim Ducks to town for the only time this season. The Ducks, meanwhile, are in free-fall, having just suffered a 9-3 defeat at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets in the midst of a dreadful stretch that’s seen them win just two(!!) of their last 18 games.
Toronto most recently knocked off the Ducks 2-1 in overtime on November 16th in Anaheim.

Corey Perry has remarkably rejoined the Ducks lineup after missing 51 games. Unfortunately for them, the injury bug never stopped or started with Perry, as Ryan Miller, Ryan Kesler, Kevin Bieksa and Ondrej Kase all remain out for Anaheim.

Starting Goalies

John Gibson (.916) and Frederik Andersen (.922) duke it out tonight. The former teammates have spent most of the season neck-and-neck for Vezina consideration, though Gibson has faltered of late.

Notes

  • Will tonight be the night that Randy Carlyle gets the axe? Probably not, but it’s fun to dream.
  • Can Auston Matthews continue his rejuvenated scoring touch? With goals in three straight games and 23 in just 37, Matthews looks poised to return to his dangerous usual self.
Puck Drop is at 7pm on TSN4.
