LGD: Toronto’s Dominion Arena, Boston
By Ryan Hobart
5 years agoLast night, the Leafs put on quite a show at home against the New Jersey Devils, winning 6-1. After a long bout of struggles scoring at home, they finally found a bunch of goals in one night.
Tonight, they’re back on the road against the Boston Bruins. The Leafs have been dominant on the road this season, winning all 6 away games they have played.
They’ll certainly hope to continue that record tonight, facing a strong division rival in the Bruins. Boston has been good so far this season, with an 8-5-2 record, and they currently sit 4th in the Atlantic Division, in the 1st Wild Card spot. The Leafs are decidedly ahead at this stage, sitting 2nd in the division with an 11-5-0 record.
Leafs Lines
As of the moment this is being written, there has been no word of any changes from last night’s lineup. The only change that I am expecting and have noted below is that Sparks should start, while Andersen backs up. It is possible we could see either Marincin or Holl swapped in for Ozhiganov, as has been done on a number of occasions early in the season.
Sparks has been hit and miss this season, with one really good game (4-1 win against LA) and one really bad game (7-6 win against Chicago).
Any reported changes to the lines below will be added as they are reported.

Bruins Lines
It has been noted in the news that Bruins’ goalie Tuuka Rask will be stepping away from the team for some time with a personal issue. It is expected that goalie Zane Macintytre will be called up to be the backup, but this has not been confirmed.
Halak has been splitting starts with Rask this season, as Rask has had some tremendous struggles performance-wise. Whether this relates to his personal issue above is unknown. Halak has been great in his replacement, with a 93.6% save percentage in 9 games this season. His last game, however, was a stinker against Vancouver where he had to be pulled after allowing 5 goals on 19 shots.

Preview
The Leafs, on paper, look like a slightly stronger team coming into this game, even without Matthews and Nylander. They will struggle, as always, to contain Boston’s dominant 1st line (the best 1st line in the league as per Corsica ratings). However, if their other lines can put in some production, as has been the case lately with Brown and Ennis specifically, they should be alright.
The key will be protecting Sparks and ensuring he doesn’t have the same performance he had against Chicago. Some early, low danger shots would be a nice way to ease into this very important divisional matchup.
My Leafs keys for the game tonight are as follows:
- Fight fire with fire against the Bergeron line
- Protect the house, keeping shot danger low
- Depth scoring
Hope that everyone enjoys the game tonight and that the Leafs can have a performance similar to last night! Go Leafs Go!
