With six wins in their last eight games the @Toronto Maple Leafs will be looking for a statement victory on Monday night when they host the league-leading Tampa Bay Lightning in a pick’em matchup on the NHL betting lines at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Maple Leafs continued their successful run on Saturday with a 3-2 road victory over the Edmonton Oilers as -170 betting favorites. Morgan Rielly, John Tavares, and Jake Muzzin had the goals for Toronto in that win, while Frederik Anderson stopped 31 of 33 Edmonton shots.
However, despite going 6-2-2 overall in their last 10 games the Maple Leafs have still lost ground in the division race, sitting well behind the first-place Lightning and back of the second-place Boston Bruins as well with just 14 games left on their schedule. And finishing third in the Atlantic keeps Toronto from home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
The Lightning are coming off a 3-2 home win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday as heavy -450 betting favorites, with Art Ross Trophy leader Nikita Kucherov scoring twice for Tampa Bay on the night and backup goaltender Louis Domingue making 22 saves. Lightning starter Andrei Vasilevskiy, at 31-8-4 on the season, is likely to get the start on Monday night.
Despite sitting 19 points behind the Lightning in the division standings the Maple Leafs did win their last matchup, picking up a 4-2 win in Tampa Bay as +125 road underdogs back on January 17. Tampa Bay topped Toronto 4-1 as -140 home favorites in the teams’ first meeting of the season back on December 13, and the Lightning are 5-2 in the last seven games between the teams dating back to April 2017 according to the OddsShark NHL Database.
Tampa Bay, which has already locked up a playoff spot and is the runaway leader in the Presidents’ Trophy race, remains the +230 favorite on the Stanley Cup odds heading into the week. Toronto sits in the next tier of contenders on those NHL futures at a line of +1000.
