The PR battle rages on between the Marner camp and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
On Tuesday, Brad Treliving commented on the situation to Pierre Lebrun of The Athletic/TSN: “Mitch controls a lot of this whole thing. If there’s a way to make our team better, we’re going to do it. But we’re certainly not to make a trade just so we can pound our chest and say, ‘Look, we’re different.”
Anthony Stewart filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by dissecting the Stanley Cup Final, which is set to get underway on Saturday night in Sunrise. Stewey’s taking the Oilers, I’m taking the Panthers. It’s going to be an awesome series. Furthermore, we also broke down that viral video of the fan encounter with Connor McDavid after the Oilers won the Western Conference Final. Does he not have a guy to get him beer, so he can avoid awkward situations like this one?
At any rate, presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we got into the Marner conversation. All in all, Treliving’s retort was well thought out. It’s situations like this one where his experience and knowledge will come in very handy for the organization. For all intents and purposes, the PR battle has only just begun. It’s going to be an interesting month of June. There will be a lot of public posturing —from both sides.
Meantime, thanks to Wendy’s, Sportsnet’s Leafs reporter Luke Fox dropped by for a chat. We started by discussing the Stanley Cup Final —Luke’s covering it. After that, we got into some offseason chatter. Will the Leafs be busy in free agency? Will they make a big-time trade? To wrap, we dovetailed the conversation with the whole Marner thing. Luke gave his thoughts on what he sees happening over the next few months.
