Training camp has begun, or at least the media portion of it, and thus means the physical testing has begun as well.
Well, it should be no surprise that both Nathan Horton and Joffrey Lupul failed their physicals, so they won’t make the team this year.
With Horton, it’s particularly no surprise, as he’s been on the Leafs for more than two years and has yet to play a game for the team. If anything, it’s surprising that he came all the way to Toronto to take a test that he probably knew he wasn’t going to pass.
As for Lupul, it’s more surprising that the Leafs have gotten away with it for the second year in a row, considering his social media has seen him managing his injuries just fine. It seems like the Leafs won’t get in trouble for it though, so basically it means that other teams won’t be able to do it in a few years when the inevitable lockout creates a rule on it.
The rest of the team did pass their physicals, which means that we don’t have any lingering injuries going into camp. This includes Soshnikov, who was apparently dealing with lingering concussion symptoms during the summer, and Polak, who is on a PTO with the team.
