The Toronto Maple Leafs have played OVER the total for bettors in each of their last five games, including in their 5-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres as -260 home favorites (wager $260 to win $100) on the NHL odds on Saturday. The Maple Leafs, though, have trended toward the UNDER in recent games against their Monday opponent, the Calgary Flames.
The Maple Leafs opened as +110 road underdogs (wager $100 to win $110) at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com for their matchup with the Flames on Monday night, with the OVER/UNDER set at 6.5 goals. Each of Toronto’s last five games against Calgary dating back to November 2016 have turned out to be UNDER results at the sportsbooks, including their 3-1 home loss to the Flames as -155 favorites in their first meeting of the season in October.
Sean Monahan, Elias Lindholm, and Michael Frolik all scored for Calgary in that October victory – in which they’d been set as +135 underdogs – while Mike Smith stopped 24 of 25 Maple Leafs shots between the pipes for the Flames. Frederik Andersen allowed two goals on 33 shots for Toronto that day, with Nazem Kadri scoring the team’s lone marker. Kadri has been out of the lineup for the Maple Leafs since suffering a concussion back on February 19.
The Maple Leafs are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, but have still lost ground to the red-hot Boston Bruins in the race for second place in the Atlantic Division standings. Boston sits three points up on Toronto in second place, with both teams having played 65 games. The Maple Leafs, though, hold the edge on the Bruins on the latest Stanley Cup odds at sportsbooks, with Toronto at +700 and Boston behind them at +950. Tampa Bay leads the way at +225.
The Flames join Toronto at +700 on those latest Stanley Cup futures, and they hold down the lead in the Pacific Division standings heading into the week. Calgary is 7-2-1 in its past 10 games, although the Flames fell 4-2 at home to the Minnesota Wild as -185 betting favorites on Saturday night. The UNDER has paid out in four of Calgary’s last five games overall.
