The Toronto Maple Leafs offer more betting value on the totals side than on the moneyline as they enter the latest edition of the Battle of Ontario. The Maple Leafs are -175 away favorites while the Ottawa Senators are +155 home underdogs with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Saturday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Maple Leafs are just 5-5 in their last 10 games against the Senators with the total finishing OVER eight times at online sports betting sites. Both teams play again Sunday: the Maple Leafs are 14-6 in their last 20 games when they were also playing the next day with the total finishing OVER 13 times, while the Senators are 5-12 in their last 17 “front end” matchups with the total finishing OVER 11 times.

Maple Leafs at Senators | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Maple Leafs are 30-20-8 this season, including a 5-2 record in their last seven games as an away favorite with the total finishing OVER six times. Auston Matthews, Michael Marner and the Maple Leafs forwards, who have Toronto fifth in the 31-team NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (52.7 percent), could be due for an offensive breakout after a pair of close-checking games this week against the Arizona Coyotes and Dallas Stars, two defensively sound teams. The Maple Leafs are third in goals scored (3.52 per game) and 26th in goals against (3.24). On special teams, the power play is ranked third (25.2 percent) but the penalty killing unit is ranked 23rd (77.8).
Jack Campbell is expected to be Toronto’s starting goalie. Campbell has a 10-10-3 record with a 2.80 goals-against average and .903 save percentage this season.
The Senators are 19-27-11, including a 1-4 record in their last five games as a home underdog of +140 or more on the moneyline. Led up front by centers Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Chris Tierney, the Senators are 27th in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (47.1 percent), but showed signs of life offensively in their last outing, scoring three goals in a game for the first time in February in their win against Arizona on Thursday. Ottawa is 26th in goals scored (2.63) and 27th in goals against (3.30). Their power play is ranked 29th (14.4) and the penalty killing is ranked 21st (78.5).
Ottawa is expected to have rookie Marcus Hogberg and veteran Craig Anderson – who handled the last matchup against Toronto on February 1 – each make one start this weekend. Hogberg has a 3-5-7 record with a 2.87 goals-against average and .914 save percentage and has allowed just four goals in his two most recent starts. Anderson has a 7-13-2 record with a 3.27 GAA and .899 save percentage.
After facing the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday, the Maple Leafs visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday to finish a stretch of three away games in four nights.
