Maple Leafs Job Fair: Julien Brisebois’ resume

Continuing with job fair week for the Leafs’ front office positions, today we’ve come across the resume of Julien Brisebois, another strong candidate applying for the role of general manager with the organization. It’s a bold step forward for such a young professional, but no one wants to be an assistant forever, and Brisebois has accomplished a lot in a relatively short period of time in the hockey world.

Looking to join a progressive management team in a Senior role and get a break from the Florida heat for the cold grey streets of Hog Town.
Work Experience
Assistant General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning and General Manager of AHL Affiliate Syracuse Crunch (previously Norfolk Admirals) (2010-Present)
Hired Jon Cooper and led the Admirals team that went on that insane 28-game winning streak and Calder Cup in 2012. Duties include assisting Steve Yzerman in all personnel decisions, contract negotiations, player arbitration and cap management. That law/business background comes in handy. I’m also still really young by front office standards. See those guys ripping the league apart for the Lightning now? They graduated from my AHL team.
VP of Hockey Operations for the Montreal Canadiens and General Manager of AHL Affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs (2006-2010)
Helped lead the Bulldogs to a Calder Cup in 2007 and was then given the reigns. Eventually hired coach Guy Boucher and took the team to the Conference Final again in 2010 before Yzerman came knocking and swooped us both up with promises of bigger roles and better weather.
Director of Hockey Operations for the Montreal Canadiens (2003-2006)
I was promoted to this position at the age of 27. I was Kyle Dubas before being Kyle Dubas was all the rage.
Director of Legal Affairs for the Montreal Canadiens (2001-2003)
Did law stuff and legal things. Just kept everything legal, doing law and all that. You know how it goes.

Kucherov is great, Drouin was an easy decision, but drafting Ondrej Palat with a seventh-rounder is something this management group can hang its hat on.

Maybe Koekkoek as a top ten pick was a bit of a reach? I don’t know, we haven’t really made any stand-out lousy selections. Luckily I got here after the Connolly pick. Guess I’m just awesome.

Hiring Manager’s Notes
Brisebois would likely be a good fit with the current management team, as his history suggests a strong focus in player development to go with a keen eye for progressive coaching. He certainly doesn’t represent the old boys club of the NHL. On the administrative side he has a high level of training, and the academic background in law and business makes him a desirable candidate to plug into an organization (hopefully) taking the right steps toward incorporating proper analysis into personnel decisions and tightening up their cap situation.
