Maple Leafs Job Fair: Paul MacLean’s resume

the head coaching job of the Maple Leafs. Not because of his coaching record,
not because Bob McKenzie reported that the Leafs asked for permission to speak
to him during the season, but because in a world of getting hired based on who
you know, Paul MacLean knows the right people.

MacLean is the former of coach of Brendan Shanahan in
Detroit, specifically MacLean worked with the forwards and closely with players
like Shanahan. His son is the assistant coach of the Soo Greyhounds, having
been hired by one Kyle Dubas. We can possibly assume that MacLean, Hunter, and
Shanahan all had a beer together at some point or another if Blues Alumni get
togethers are a thing, though they all narrowly missed playing together. If we
find out Brandon Pridham does MacLean’s taxes, he might be the most connected
person outside of this organization.

Ottawa Senators (2011-2014)
My responsibilities trying to find a use for Jared Cowan, making sure we have
plenty of model airplane glue around to hold Milan Michalek together, and
keeping Chris Neil away from Ponzi schemes. I had to do this while working with
an owner who would routinely sell my clipboards for parking meter money.

to coach Brendan Shanahan for a year so I could experience true hockey joy.

Personal Interests
- Have three kids, one is a scout for the Coyotes, one is an assistant coach of the Soo Greyhounds, the other knows about Taylor Swift lyrics.
- Father was in the Royal Canadian Air Force, that’s how I am from France but have the least French name possible.
- My moustache is sentient and goes by the name Arnold P. Cornflower and would have to be compensated as a professional scout in the event that I was hired
Hiring Manager’s Notes
After Randy Carlyle it seems like there is good reason to be scared off of Former Winnipeg Jets who went on cup runs in Anaheim, but MacLean is still an interesting candidate. Shanahan’s familiarity is a huge plus, and if you’re not getting Babcock, why not get one of his disciplines before Mike gets a chance to bring his friend back on board? The main issues with MacLean would be seem to be that he’s not a player’s coach and it didn’t take too long before people started believing the Senators had tuned him out. While all coaches are going to try and be competitive with the group of players they have, I have some concerns that MacLean may not be the best option for developing young players as Curtis Lazar, Mark Stone, etc. all thrived after his departure and struggled to get noticed while MacLean was the boss in Ottawa.
