Following his unfortunate passing, the Toronto Maple Leafs will be honouring legend Red Kelly in a ceremony this Friday, May 10th.
The Hall-of-Famer passed away Thursday, May 2nd at the age of 91-years-old.
This Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, the Leafs will be honouring the hockey giant in a period of reflection at Legends Row in front of Scotiabank Arena.
He spent eight years (1959-1967) playing for the Leafs, after a lengthy history with the Detroit Red Wings for the previous twelve seasons. In his seasons with the Leafs, they won four Stanley Cups together and finished his career as part of the legendary 1967 championship team.
After stints with the Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins as a coach, Kelly returned to Toronto in 1973 and coached the team until 1977 — making the playoffs all four years.
His number four jersey is now retired both by the Leafs and the Red Wings, the latter retiring his number February 1st of this year.
The legend and stamp Red Kelly put on hockey and the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise will never go away anytime soon.
