Marincin Clears, Rosen Recalled

This post is about closure and as it often does, waivers has played out in the most boring fashion. Marincin has cleared waivers and is Marlies bound. This is good news as he’s definitely still an asset within the organization, and they didn’t lose him for nothing. It’s also good for those of us who like shiny new things, because with the Marincin’s demotion comes the promotion of Calle Rosen (as per Chris Johnston)
So the Marincin story is pretty much closed, a lot of people like him, but they aren’t going to have to deal with him sitting helplessly in the press box, he’ll still be helping Toronto and adding organizational depth. It’s good that other GM’s didn’t want to take a chance on him, because I’d hope that even his biggest detractors can acknowledge that having him as AHL depth is outstanding.
As for Rosen, I hope this means we’ll see him rotating in and out of the lineup with Borgman. It’s going to be exciting having another rookie to check out, and for the Leafs to feel this confident about getting back up quickly, I’m expecting big things.
That brings us to the other name on waivers, Calvin Pickard. Obviously a Vegas goaltender has nothing to do with the Leafs, except for the fact that Curtis McElhinney isn’t very good and Calvin Pickard is (although looking at last season’s totals you might believe otherwise). With Pickard now being able to be dealt as an AHL player, the Leafs should be revisiting what I suggested yesterday in regards to trying to acquire him from Vegas. The price for Pickard has probably gone up, and the Golden Knights sense of urgency on moving him as definitely gone down, but there should be some dialogue between the teams as you’d be hard pressed to find a worse backup option in the league than what the Leafs are carrying.
Toronto’s cap situation can be viewed at NHLNumbers.
