Marlies Goals Scored On/Off Ice

The onset of the NHL season is a distinct point in the schedule that impacts the AHL, as the outflow of players joining their respective parent clubs altered lineups immensely.
The Marlies lost three of their four top scorers, with the graduation of Nazem Kadri along with Mike Kostka with a spot on the Leafs defense. Keith Aucoin was claimed by the New York Islanders.
With the abrupt changes in the roster, I wanted to update the Marlies non-traditional player points breakdowns before a final sweep at the end of the season. The breakdowns are goals by period, and when those goals were scored, for example, tie games, up one goal, down one goal, etc. as well as on and off ice totals.
Below are updated results up to the weekend ending January 20, 2013.
A detailed individual player by player goals and assists breakdown, is available as a google doc here.
The Marlies current leading goal scorer, Ryan Hamilton (18) scored seven in the 3rd period. One goal scored as the game was tied, three with the Marlies up one goal, one while down one goal and twice with the Marlies up by two or more.
Seven of Hamilton’s goals were scored with a one goal lead, Carter Ashton with four as the score was tied and Will Acton with four – three to open the scoring in games.
Hamilton was on the ice for 37 goals scored (13 on the power play) almost 20 less than Aucoin and well behind team leader Mike Kostka (60). Paul Ranger was on the ice for 55 goals scored.
Spencer Abbott has a differential of plus-17, on the ice for 26 goals scored and nine goals against. He’s had limited time with 22 games, but he is likely a regular moving forward in a scoring role. We’ll revisit that at the end of the season.

Joe Colborne continues to keep his on-ice goals against very low. When I first looked at this back in mid-December, he was on the ice for only seven goals against. That number has grown to 12, with 34 goals scored while he was on the ice. There will be even more scrutiny on the former Bruin prospect thrust into a prime offensive opportunity with the roster shuffle.
