It’s a week until the trade deadline and there is a lot of excitement whenever @LeafsPR pops up in your twitter timeline.
This is one of those times when the excitement went away pretty quickly.
For the second time this year, Mason Marchment has been returned to the Marlies after a very brief look with the Leafs. While there seems to be a desire to add his physical play to the team, he hasn’t been sticking, and certainly didn’t impress on the level that Egor Korshkov did in his first go at the Leafs.
Mason Marchment returns to the Marlies where he has had hot hands of late, and hopefully will continue to help the Marlies to push for some extra games this spring.
As far as his replacement goes, well, there isn’t one yet, and the Leafs might prefer to keep a bit of flexibility with their roster heading into the trade deadline next Monday.
As for Marlies it would be nice to see, well Kenny Agostino would be an intriguing forward to see on the Leafs at some point, and Teemu Kivihalme could be an interesting defensive option if the blueline is further depleted. As for now, the Leafs are fine for their lineup card in Pittsburgh tonight, and they return home for Thursday and Saturday games against the Penguins and Hurricanes before heading into the trade deadline when non-emergency callups are limited. I would expect some movement between the Leafs and the Marlies following Saturday’s game to help make some current Leafs eligible for the Marlies if they do indeed make the AHL playoffs.
