At last, we’ve reached the final week of May.
Unsurprisingly, the Conference Finals have been fantastic thus far.
We kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing Game 3 of the East Final on Sunday afternoon. Alex Wennberg potted the OT winner to give the New York Rangers a 2-1 series lead against the Florida Panthers. Igor Shesterhkin was fantastic. On top of that, the game featured another questionable hit by Rangers captain Jacob Trouba. Rosey reacted to that. Additionally, we briefly discussed the West Final, too. That series is tied 1-1 with Game 3 slated for Monday night in Edmonton.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we went over some news and notes from the past couple of days in Leafs Nation. After spending four seasons as an Assistant in Toronto, Manny Malholtra is headed back to the Vancouver Canucks organization. On Friday, he was named the head coach of Vancouver’s AHL affiliate in Abbotsford. Meantime, we also talked about John Tavares’ excellent showing at the World Championships. Unfortunately, Canada didn’t even medal, which again, sparked some negativity towards Tavares for the whole being unable to get the job done thing. Lazy narrative. All in all, he was fantastic in the tournament.
Meantime, thanks to Wendy’s, former NHLer and co-host of the Clearing the Crease podcast Mike Commodore dropped by for a chat. In addition to talking some Leafs, Commie didn’t hold back his true feelings on Winnipeg’s decision to hire Scott Arniel as Rick Bowness’ successor behind the bench. He doesn’t hate him as much as he hates Mike Babcock, though. That’s confirmed.

Carter Hutton will fill in for Jay Rosehill on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we break down Game 3 of the Western Conference Final. Plus, Hutts hasn’t been around for a while, so we’ll get his general reaction to everything that’s transpired in Toronto over the past little while.
