After a very hectic few months, the Leafs have another break in the schedule before their sprint to the regular season finish line.
Incredibly, they have just 18 games remaining before it all gets going for real in April.
We kicked off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by attacking two pertinent topics. Firstly, Jay Rosehill gave his opinion on Matt Rempe’s elbow to the head of New Jersey’s Jonas Siegenthaler on Monday night. For what it’s worth, the rookie got a phone hearing for that one. After that, we dissected Toronto’s new St. Pat’s jersey. They’ll be wearing those units on Saturday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.
Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer focused on some notes from practice on Monday. Most importantly, Sheldon Keefe said Mitch Marner remains day-to-day and revealed that it’s unlikely that he’ll play in the team’s next game against the Flyers. Marner was reportedly suffered a lower body injury in last Thursday’s 4-1 loss in Boston. Additionally, we also broke down where Nick Robertson fits on this team moving forward. In case you missed it, the 22-year-old was called up from the AHL on Monday. At this point, there’s no telling if he’ll be in the lineup on Thursday.
Meantime, thanks to Tim Hortons, former Leaf Mikhail Grabovski made his first ever appearance on the show. He was a lot of fun. We talked about his passion for coaching, his chemistry with Nikolai Kulemin and Clarke MacArthur, and how it all ended in Toronto. Additionally, he gave his thoughts on the current team. Spoiler: Grabo’s a big fan of Mitch Marner.

Lastly, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, we talked load management. Should the Leafs employ it down the stretch? John Tavares has had some time off recently, now Mitch Marner’s getting some time to chill out. Maybe they’ve already been implementing it? If it means good things in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, we’re all for it.
