NHL Puckdoku answers and clues: July 12, 2023

The new game “puckdoku” is taking the hockey world by storm. Here’s how it works. There’s a 3×3 grid, and each row and column are marked with either a team or a statistic of some sort. You have to guess players who meet the criteria for both the column and the row for the square you’re on. For example…if your square is in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ column and the St. Louis Blue row…Ryan O’Reilly would work. If it’s in the Washington Capitals column and the row says “40+ goals in a season”, Alex Ovechkin would work. You can play the daily Puckdoku puzzle here:
There’s also a rarity score in the form of a percentage next to the player you guess…the lower the percentage, the more rare the guess. Once you start getting used to the game, you want to shoot for a low rarity score.
Without further ado, here are some hints for today’s puckdoku puzzle.
Kings/Flames: Player won a cup with the Kings in 2014 and currently plays for a Metro Division team
Red Wings/Flames: Player is a member of the most recent Hall of Fame class
Sabres/Flames: Player is one of the Sabres’ two first round picks in 2013
Kings/Lightning: Player is a former Lightning captain who was almost traded to the Montreal Canadiens in 2009
Red Wings/Lightning: Player is currently a member of the Red Wings and has only played for these two teams in his career
Sabres/Lightning: Player was a third overall pick of the then-Atlanta Thrashers
Kings 50+ assists in a season: Player is considered one of if not the greatest player of all time
Red Wings 50+ assists in a season: Player was formerly GM of the Lightning
Sabres 50+ assists in a season: Player finished second to only Mario Lemieux in league scoring for the 1992-93 season
