NHL Puckdoku answers and clues: July 14, 2023

The new game “puckdoku” is taking the hockey world by storm. Here’s how it works. There’s a 3×3 grid, and each row and column are marked with either a team or a statistic of some sort. You have to guess players who meet the criteria for both the column and the row for the square you’re on. For example…if your square is in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ column and the St. Louis Blues row…Ryan O’Reilly would work. If it’s in the Washington Capitals column and the row says “40+ goals in a season”, Alex Ovechkin would work. You can play the daily Puckdoku puzzle here:
There’s also a rarity score in the form of a percentage next to the player you guess…the lower the percentage, the more rare the guess. Once you start getting used to the game, you want to shoot for a low rarity score.
Without further ado, here are some hints for today’s puckdoku puzzle.
Red Wings/Devils: Player went to the Cup Final with the Montreal Canadiens in 2020-21, currently an unrestricted free agent
Blackhawks/Devils: Player’s career lasted 14 years with seven different teams, won two Cups with the Blackhawks in 2013 and 2015
Blues/Devils: Player is a nine-time all star and a four-time Vezina-winning goaltender
Red Wings/Capitals: Player was a first round pick of the Red Wings in 2013
Blackhawks/Capitals: Player is a former third overall pick within the last decade
Blues/Capitals: Player is known for scoring four shootout goals in an Olympic game versus Russia in 2014
Red Wings Norris Trophy winner: Player’s entire 20-year career was spent with the Red Wings, retired in 2012
Blackhawks Norris Trophy winner: Won two Norris trophies and was a member of each Blackhawks Cup win in 2010, 2013, and 2015
Blues Norris Trophy winner: Won the Norris and the Hart in the same season, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame
