NHLNumbers consensus draft list: Who is available at number five?
By Cam Charron
11 years agoDerek Zona over at sister site NHLNumbers.com has published the consensus draft list, drawing from a combination of different rankings found throughout the online world of prospect scouting, both mainstream and blog variety. Which of these guys do we expect to see on the Leafs two weeks from now?
Wikipedia, which has aggregated all the trades for draft picks quite well actually, have the Leafs selecting in the following positions:
1st round: 5th overall
2nd round: 35th overall
5th round: 126th overall
6th round: 156th overall
6th round: 157th overall
7th round: 209th overall
2nd round: 35th overall
5th round: 126th overall
6th round: 156th overall
6th round: 157th overall
7th round: 209th overall
The consensus list goes up to 100, and with just two selections in the top 100, adhering strictly to the list would give the Leafs Mathew Dumba from the Red Deer Rebels in the 1st round and Tanner Pearson of the Barrie Colts—a couple of good Canadian kids that the Leafs so desperately lack, or something.

Any names that stick out to you on either list? I’m partial to taking forwards in the first couple of rounds instead of forwards or defencemen, but would prefer for the Leafs to stay away from the 19-year old Pearson and take younger players. That makes Teuvo Teräväinen a fairly attractive option, who will probably be the youngest player taken, and therefore the most room to develop.
Leafs Nation did a quick straw poll. Amalgamating the Top Five lists of myself, Danny Gray and Ryan Fancey, we came up with a brief list for the Leafs:
1 – Nail Yakupov
2 – Alex Galchenyuk
3 – Filip Forsberg
4 – Mikhail Grigorenko
T5 – Ryan Murray
T5 – Teuvo Teräväinen
7 – Radek Faksa
2 – Alex Galchenyuk
3 – Filip Forsberg
4 – Mikhail Grigorenko
T5 – Ryan Murray
T5 – Teuvo Teräväinen
7 – Radek Faksa
Those are the guys we’ll be keying in on in the next few weeks, as well as a few secound round options we like.
Give us your lists in the comments.
