After six seasons, it seems like James van Riemsdyk is officially parting ways with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and signing a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers, if you forgot, were the team that originally drafted JVR 2nd overall, and eventually traded him to the Leafs for Luke Schenn.
Since joining the Leafs, JVR put up 154 goals and 294 points in six seasons. His 154 goals ranked 16th in the NHL during that span.
There had been reports that teams like New Jersey, NY Rangers, Buffalo, and Arizona had been interested, but the Flyers seemed to have won the sweepstakes. While the contract information hasn’t been reported yet, apparently both Buffalo and Arizona were both pushing 5 years, which means that the Flyers may have added more money and/or term to acquire the winger.
This was something that most Leafs fans had already come to terms with, but it still sucks now that it’s happening. JVR was excellent during his time with the Leafs, but it seems like it was time to move on. God speed, James.
