According to Colorado Hockey Now’s Adrian Dater, the Leafs are going to be signing unrestricted free agent and NHL depth forward Kenny Agostino to a two-year contract.
The contract will be one-way, only meaning that he gets paid the same money whether he is up with the NHL club or down in the minors.
Agostino played 27 games with the New Jersey Devils last season, spending the rest of the year as a healthy scratch. He scored a pretty respectable 13 points in those 27 games.
He could serve as a cheap replacement for Tyler Ennis in the same role, and although he doesn’t come with the same pedigree, he should still fill the role competently. Ultimately, his role on the team will be minor, whether that’s the minor leagues or a minimally important role on the Leafs.
This is now confirmed from TSN’s Bob Mckenzie:
It won’t be made official until tomorrow’s annual start of UFA season on July 1st, but Bob’s confirmation is as good as official, still.
