Report: Tim Leiweke Joining Miami MLS Investors Group

It seems as if the end is at hand for L’il Timmy Leiweke, who briefly swooped in and fixed everything that’s wrong with the Toronto sports.
Raptors: Playoffs
TFC: Playoffs
Marlies: Playoffs
Even the Jays and Argos got contact highs from Leiweke’s golden touch.
It seems only team is somehow worse off than how Leiweke found it. Thankfully Leiweke is finally going the way of the Bon Jovi as the Miami Herald reports
“According to sources close to negotiations, the newcomer to the investment group is Tim Leiweke, the president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which runs the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL, Toronto Raptors of the NBA and Toronto FC of MLS.”
“Miami Beckham United spokesman Tadd Schwartz wouldn’t confirm Leiweke’s involvement, but sources said Leiweke has been meeting with Miami-Dade politicians over the past several weeks to accelerate the deal.
Beckham’s group, which also includes Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, is negotiating with the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County to build a stadium adjacent to Marlins Park. They have made significant progress since Leiweke joined the talks, and hope to have an agreement reached before Christmas, according to one source.”
Of course, since MLSE operates Toronto FC, that means that Leiweke will have to part ways as soon as he’s on board. This all comes very shortly after reports that Kevin Gilmore is in consideration for the MLSE CEO gig.
I can’t think of anything that excites me less than personnel shuffles above Brendan Shanahan, but there’s always the issue that every new boss wants to put their own stamp on the organization, so this is probably important.
