Just like old times
At around 9:00 EST on November 22, 2011 Sidney Crosby passed Matt Stajan in the race for the Art Ross Trophy.
What else is new with Matt?
According to a story filed by Steve MacFarlane Matt Stajan recently dropped some knowledge about the Flame’s playoff chances. Matt Stajan has played in 3 NHL Playoff games, so he knows a little something about what it takes to make them.
“You can’t get too far behind. Last year, I don’t think we waited to turn it around. It maybe took us a little more time than we wanted it to. We know that it’s hard to play catch-up.”
Stajan implored his teammates to step-up their games to his level.
“The time is now. We’ve got to start climbing the standings and make sure we don’t find ourselves in a situation where we’re chasing right down to the end of the season.”
Stajan believes that the Flames may follow in some unlikely footsteps. When reminded that very few teams outside a playoff spot around American Thanksgiving make the playoffs, Stajan duly informed the press that:  “There’s stats like that in every sport. I’d like to see the stat in baseball that the (St. Louis) Cardinals were going to make the playoffs and win the World Series.”
He reiterated that the Flames control their own destiny.
“At the end of the day, we’ve just got to focus on our next game and build off that. If you win, you get on a bit of a streak and win some games in a row and you can find yourselves right back in the hunt.”
“That’s what we need to do. It starts with our next game.”
The Flames beat the Blackhawks 5-2 Friday evening, and lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 last night.
So much for that.
Matt Stajan’s Flames have only won consecutive games once this season.
Although, as Matt said, “It’s professional sports. Things happen. You can put odds against everything.”
