The head-to-head trend is more encouraging with the Toronto Maple Leafs than some broader trends as they enter a rematch with one of the NHL’s best defensive clubs. The Maple Leafs are -140 home favourites while the Dallas Stars are +120 underdogs with a 6.0-goal total on the NHL odds for Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Maple Leafs are 8-2 over their last 10 games against the Stars, but Toronto also has a 2-10 record over 12 home games against the Central Division since the start of the 2018-19 season. They are also 3-7 in their last 10 home games as a -130 to -150 home favourite at betting sites with the total finishing UNDER six times. The Stars are 5-6 in their last 11 road games against the Eastern Conference, with the total finishing OVER seven times.

Stars at Maple Leafs | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Stars are 32-19-5 this season, including a 10-5 record as a road underdog. Dallas blends a bend-don’t-break defence with offence by committee as the Stars have been competitive while ranking 19th in the 31-team NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (49.2 percent). The Stars’ attack could be affected if center Joe Pavelski (upper body) is forced to sit out a second game in a row. The Stars are 25th in goals scored (2.66 per game) but rank third in goals against (2.50). The Dallas power play is ranked 13th (20.4 percent) and the penalty killing unit ranks 11th (81.9).
Dallas goalie Ben Bishop has an 18-12-4 record with a 2.38 goals-against average and .924 save percentage, but the Stars are 2-5 in his last seven starts.
The Maple Leafs are 30-19-8 overall following their 3-2 overtime win against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday. Toronto, which is fifth in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (52.5 percent), should pose challenges for Dallas’ defence with their speed, most notably their reconfigured top line of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander. The Maple Leafs are third in goals scored (3.54 per game) and 25th in goals against (3.25). On special teams, Toronto has the NHL’s fourth-ranked power play (24.8 percent) and the penalty killing unit ranks 23rd (77.8).
Frederik Andersen, who has a 24-9-6 record with a 2.87 goals-against average and .910 save percentage, may be able to return from the neck injury that has kept him out of Toronto’s last four games. Jack Campbell, who has a 10-10-3 record with a 2.80 GAA and .903 save percentage this season, has played well since joining the Maple Leafs in a trade last week.
The Maple Leafs have a stretch of three road games in four days coming up, starting against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
