The decision to move on from Sheldon Keefe was long overdue: Leafs Morning Take

It’s official: The Leafs have parted ways with Sheldon Keefe.
With that in mind, a new head coaching search is underway in Toronto.
The Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take was a lengthy one. Anthony Stewart filled in for Jay Rosehill as co-host. Right off the bat, we wasted no time breaking down the news of the day. In five seasons as Leafs bench boss, Keefe registered an impressive regular season record of 212-97-40. Unfortunately, though, he only managed to win one playoff series. Sadly, he was the easiest scapegoat to pick from another disappointing first round exit. You can’t fire an entire team.

After giving our initial thoughts, presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we had a few cameo appearances from our TLN team to react to the big-time news. Firstly, Jay Rosehill stopped by. He wasn’t surprised —in the slightest. Furthermore, Rosey vouched for Jay Quenneville to get the job. That said, he said he would be okay with Craig Berube, too. Also, Zack Phillips, the host of TheLeafsNation After Dark stopped by as well. He agreed that the right decision was made. At the end of the day, this organization needs to instill some accountability. Quite frankly, it’s been missing for years now.
Then, brought to you by Douglas, Sid Seixeiro from Breakfast Television, who’s never short on opinion, jumped on to weigh in on everything. He dished on the Keefe firing, the Mitch Marner situation, Brendan Shanahan’s future, and also the economics behind all the decision making for the organization. Simply put, Sid brought the fire.

And so, the first domino has fallen on what is expected to be a very fascinating offseason for the Maple Leafs. Next up is Friday morning’s press conference where Keith Pelley, Brendan Shanahan, and Brad Treliving will address the media for the first time since Saturday night’s Game 7 loss. Jay Rosehill and I will be LIVE at a special start of 11;15 AM ET to recap the presser. It will be so interesting to see what is said. Talk then!
