The Leafs Didn’t Cross The Ritz-Carlton Picket Line, Which Is Important

Earlier today, Massachusetts and Rhode Island-based union Unite Here Local 26 tweeted out an interesting piece of news regarding the ongoing hotel workers strike at the Ritz Carlton in Boston:

This is actually pretty big news.

A quick search of Unite Here 26’s twitter account reveals that this is the first shoutout noting that a team has refused to cross the Ritz Carlton’s picket line. You may also recall that in recent weeks, many professional sports teams – including the Oilers, Flyers, Yankees and Dodgers – have been publicly called out for crossing the picket lines at the Ritz Carlton, setting a dangerous precedent for professional sports organizations to normalize scabbing and undermining the tireless efforts of strikers, workers and organizers within the labor movement.

With the often backwards nature of the NHL very much being common knowledge, it’s refreshing to know that the Leafs, at the very least, are actually good.
